Landscape Design: Schools and Educational

The Gardenmakers have been involved in schools for over 20 years and have received awards from both Local Government and the Landscape Contractors Association.

We have a design philosophy that centres on extending the learning experience beyond the confines of the classroom through creating smaller outdoor rooms or “outdoor learning environments”. We understand the need for retaining clear site lines for playground supervision, while providing low maintenance planting for texture, colour and shade.

We aim to cater for a range of different students through creating a balance of intimate “passive” areas and more expansive “active” play zones, always with a focus on social interaction, and learning through play. Informal communal areas are created with decks seating walls and amphitheatres, and larger outdoor areas are incorporated using hard wearing and low maintenance surfaces and finishes including soft fall surfaces (to ASNZ 4422:1996).

We also design and construct our own playground equipment (to ASNZ 4422:1996).
