Landscape Design: Special needs

We firmly believe in the provision of ‘inclusive’ outdoor environments. We have staff trained through Kidsafe, APSI and AAA and pay thorough attention to surfacing and spatial needs assuring outdoor spaces that allow ‘access to all’.

Through our training and experience in working in ‘special needs’ schools we understand the importance of a specialised design approach to ensure the necessary requirements are met in relation to the DDA and Australian Standard 1428.3: 1992  ‘Design for access and Mobility’.

Our design team understands the specific requirements of design for accessible environments, incorporating the use of tactile surfaces, accessible gradients, surface colours for the visually impaired, continuous accessible paths of travel, site lines for disabled access and the relevant Australian Standards.

We place high importance on stimulatory elements including sensory play, textured surfaces, sound elements and scented planting. Our philosophy is to not only meet the necessary standards, but to provide high quality designs with passive and active areas, challenging interactive items, and hard wearing surfaces to create fun, safe and practical outdoor environments giving special importance to design for independent use wherever possible. Recently we received an award from the Australian Institute of Landscape Designers & Managers for one of our special needs projects.

Free consultation: We offer a free initial site visit to all locations within the Sydney metro area (areas outside the metro area may incur a travel charge).
